Yeah, so Betty White decided to endorse Barack Obama about a week ago. I’m starting to wonder why I should care at all who a celebrity supports in any sort of election, as Betty White’s reason for her endorsement seems to be similar to that of any celebrity supporter:
White says in this year’s election, she likes what Obama has done and “how he represents us.”
My enormous ego tells me that these endorsements don’t matter, actors don’t know much of anything about politics (why do people in the film industry support higher taxes, yet film in states with lesser taxes on that industry?), and that these people are pretty much speaking without thinking.
However, when the intellect kicks in, I realize this is a problem. Unfortunately, people in their teens and twenties listen to celebs. How in the world can we compete with that level of influence?
